Regular Clean vs Deep Clean: What Is Actually Different

·4 min read·VeltoClean Team

The term deep clean gets used loosely. Here is what it actually means, when you need each, and why the price difference exists.

Deep clean is one of those terms that gets applied to everything. It does not mean anything unless you define it. Here is the actual difference, and how to know which one your property needs.

What a regular clean covers

A regular maintenance clean covers the surfaces you encounter every day:

  • Vacuuming and mopping all floors
  • Wiping down benchtops and visible surfaces
  • Cleaning bathroom fixtures — toilet, sink, shower
  • Dusting accessible surfaces and furniture
  • Taking out bins
  • Quick wipe of appliance exteriors

It is maintenance. It keeps a clean property clean. If you have had a professional clean recently and you keep the property tidy between visits, a regular clean is the right service.

What a deep clean covers

A deep clean goes into the spaces that a regular clean skips:

  • Oven interior, including racks and interior glass
  • Inside the microwave, fridge, and dishwasher
  • Inside all kitchen and bathroom cabinets
  • Behind and under appliances
  • Skirting boards, door frames, and light switches
  • Shower grout and exhaust fans
  • Ceiling fans and light fittings
  • Window tracks and sills
  • Blinds, slat by slat

When you need a regular clean

Regular cleaning is ongoing maintenance — weekly, fortnightly, or monthly depending on household size and lifestyle. The property is already in good condition. The clean keeps it there.

When you need a deep clean

  • Moving into a new property — regardless of how clean it looks
  • Moving out — end of lease bond clean
  • After a renovation or building work
  • Before listing a property for sale or rent
  • Once a year if you are on a regular schedule but haven't done one recently
  • If you haven't had a professional clean in 12 or more months

Why first-time clients always start with a deep clean

When we clean a property for the first time, we do not know its history. What looks acceptable on the surface may have months of build-up behind appliances or inside cabinets. We start every new client relationship with a deep clean to establish a baseline — then ongoing regular cleans maintain that standard at a lower cost.

The price difference and why it exists

A deep clean takes 2 to 4 times longer than a regular clean for the same property. A 3-bedroom Sydney home takes around 3 hours for a regular clean and 7 to 9 hours for a thorough deep clean. The price reflects the time, not a markup. You are paying for the hours.

If you are on a regular fortnightly or monthly schedule, you will rarely need a full deep clean again. The regular service keeps the property at the standard set in that first clean. That is the point of the ongoing relationship — you pay less per visit over time because the property is easier to maintain.
